POST History

Post was started on 11 April 1935.

It was originally named after two brothers

Anthony and Glover Shook. Recently redesignated

as General Dwight D. Eisenhower Post. There have

been over 44 commanders in charge of the post.

This past Saturday VFW Post 3279 sponsored a golf tournament to raise funds for local veterans and their programs. As part of that tournament the VFW post sponsored the installation of a new flag pole and conducted its first official flag raising ceremony. A plaque donated by Lynn Peterson was also presented and will be installed at the base of the flag pole in honor of our local veterans. Senior Vice Commander Bill Marshall presented Brian Slaughter the check prior to the flag raising. Sergeant at Arms Jim Theil and his wife Terry raised the flag while retired First Sergeant and Band Director from Bethany college Larry Dean performed the Star Spangled Banner for the ceremonial raising. A special thank you to all the sponsors who made this past event a success as well as all the teams who braved the difficult weather conditions to participate.
